Pauline Quirke Academy Opens at Thomas More Catholic School – April 2008

The Pauline Quirke Academy for Performing Arts opens its Saturday school at TMCS on Saturday April 26th from 9.30 am onwards.

Pauline, star of TV’s “Birds of a Feather” states;

“When I was a kid, some of my happiest memories, some of the most exciting, fun-filled inspirational times were those I spent at drama classes. Drama gives young people so many essential skills and wonderful experiences. From building confidence and improving speech and voice to honing listening skills and using your imagination. Drama offers the chance to explore yourself and the world outside as well as to escape to the furthest flung depths of your imagination. In drama you can be a Shakespearian Jester one minute and an alien from Mars the next. There are no limits, only possibilities and bucket-loads of fun and laughter.

So, that's where PQA comes from. A new generation of weekend drama schools aimed at 5-18 year olds, which will be very different from anything you might have tried or read about before”.

2007 Exam results the best ever.

Thomas More Catholic School is pleased to announce that its summer 2007 GCSE exam results were the best ever achieved by the school with 57% of pupils achieving 5 Grades A* - C or more.

Headteacher John Casey said "I congratulate all of the pupils and staff on this fantsastic reward for all their joint efforts".

SCHOOL EXAM RESULTS FIGURES REVISED –

60% of pupils achieve 5 or more Grades A* - C

TMCS is pleased to announce that, as a result of the re-marking and resolution of its dispute with Edexcel Exam Board re the CIDA/DIDA ICT course, we are able to announce a revised and final examination pass rate figure.

It means that the C's plus figure is now 85 % for ICT (not the figure previously stated) but more importantly it has lifted the schools figures from the previous 57% 5 Grades A* - C to 60% for all pupils.

This means that in two years the schools figures have improved by 23%, wonderful for the pupils involved and way above the national trend.

SCHOOL ACHIEVES INTERNATIONAL STATUS .

TMCS is pleased to announce that from September 2007 it has achieved the prestigious “ International Schools Award Status”. This is in recognition of the schools internationally based activities which are used to enliven the curriculum, broaden opportunities for our own pupils through international programmes and recognise the international nature of our student population.

The school currently runs exchanges with the College Aritistide Briand, from Dumont, Paris, France and with the Bishop McNamara High School of Forestville, Washington DC, USA.

The school also runs visits to France for all Year 7 and Year 9 pupils, as well as activities with schools in Greece, Denmark, France, Netherlands and South Africa.
